Surfside Beach to negotiate with candidate for interim town administrator

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Surfside Beach town council moved forward Monday night with a plan to hire an interim town administrator.

Town council voted to negotiate a contract with Jim Duckett. He lives in Surfside Beach and previously served as the town administrator, according to Mayor Bob Childs.

“Mr. Duckett is well experienced,” said Childs. “He’s been an administrator in other towns and Surfside Beach. He lives local, which means it’s a big savings on expenses to the town not having to pay for travel and lodging.”

Town council voted in January to fire its previous town administrator Micki Felner. Police chief Kenneth Hofmann has been filling the role on a day-to-day basis until council hires an interim administrator.

Hofmann will meet with Duckett to negotiate a contract. Childs hopes to advertise for, and hire, a permanent administrator in the next six months.
