SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The town may soon add a fee to help pay for stormwater upgrades.
The stormwater utility fee would fund future drainage projects, as several parts of Surfside are prone to flooding. Surfside leaders are proposing an $82 per year fee for all homeowners. Businesses would be charged based on a property’s size.
The plan would also create a stormwater management program to make sure the town meets national standards for water runoff. If approved, the fee would be added onto next year’s Horry County property tax bills.
Surfside town council will discuss the stormwater utility fee during its meeting Tuesday night at 6:30.
A public hearing about the fee is set for May 14.
