MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A car that was reported stolen Monday night was found submerged in a pond in Myrtle Beach the next morning, according to police.

The car was discovered in a pond off Marina Parkway and Ledro Lane, near 62nd Avenue North, Tuesday morning just before 11 a.m.

Lt. Jonathan Evans with Myrtle Beach Fire says the department is unsure how the car got into the water or how long it was there before someone noticed it. No one was found inside the car when rescue crews responded.

A police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says police responded to a residence on Wedgewood Street on Tuesday for a burglary. Two victims told police they had taken a walk from their home to the beach around 1:15 a.m. and returned home around 3 a.m. to find their kitchen window had been broken and their vehicle was missing.

According to a report, a police officer noticed a bag of items outside the broken window and one victim stated the items were taken from inside the home. Police say in the report this victim later changed her story, saying the items were taken from inside the vehicle.

“The broken glass was on top of the times, showing the items appeared to have been placed on the ground prior to the window being broken,” the report also says. “There was no glass inside the kitchen as the victims cleaned up prior to the police arrival. Also, the area under the window was wet grass and dirt, which showed no footprints, and no dirt or footprints were located on the kitchen or living room floor.”

The reports states that neither victim would give a statement to police without talking to their lawyers.

Captain Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach police confirms the vehicle was reported stolen Monday night, but couldn’t offer any other details about the incident.
