Some Longs residents get first look at flood damages as river recedes

LONGS, SC (WBTW) – Neighbors in Longs have to use boats to get through the flood waters that have completely covered Star Bluff Road.

“If you don’t have a boat, you can’t get to your home right now,” Joyce Price, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years said.

Last Friday, the flood waters started rushing into Price’s home, forcing her out for three days. In all of the years she has lived in her house, it has never flooded, not even after Hurricane Matthew.

The water flooded her entire garage, home office, and front and back yards.

On Monday, Price was able to come back to her house once the water levels receded.

“It’s devastating, not only for me, but for the whole community. Everyone is devastated, especially when you’ve never seen this kind of water come in out of nowhere,” Price said.

Despite everything, Price still remains optimistic and says she is thankful that she and her family are safe.

“In the midst of the storm, we’re still blessed. We’re still here, and that’s a blessing by itself,” Price said. “We’re just thankful we still have our home, it may be damaged, but we’re blessed.”

For now, Price says she will wait for the waters to fully recede and will pray for those who’s homes were greatly flooded.

“After that, we’ll start over; that’s all we can do,” Price said. “From here, clean up and keep moving.”
