MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The City of Myrtle Beach says residents shouldn’t be worried if they notice smoke along Fifth Avenue South.
A post on the city’s Facebook page says the Public Works Department will conduct smoke testing near Pump Station 25, along Fifth Avenue South and Ashley Drive. Testing continues through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Customers were notified of the smoke testing, according to the post.
The city uses smoke testing as a way to locate sources of sewer odors, leaks or breaks that may develop in sewer lines. The smoke is harmless, but may have a slight odor and will be white to yellowish in color.
Smoke may be seen coming from building sewer vents, gutters and downspouts or out of the ground along sewer lines in these areas.
Anyone who lives in the area and notices smoke coming out of home plumbing or fixtures should call 843-918-2102 immediately and notify the city’s Public Works Department.
