CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Officials with Horry County say residents will begin to see signs posted to designate the sites of future RIDE III infrastructure construction projects.
The one-cent Capital Project Sales Tax, approved by voters in 2016, will be used to fund these projects. This tax went into effect on May 1, 2017, and Horry County will receive approximately $592 million over the eight-year life of the tax.
Most of the RIDE III projects are in the design phase, according to the county’s press release.
“While each of these designated areas may not see immediate construction work, motorists may notice early site work as engineers survey the corridors and finalize design plans,” the release states.
Horry County Public Works has started on-site work along Carolina Forest Boulevard, clearing areas to make way for utility relocation. Currently, nine projects managed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation are under contract with preliminary engineering work beginning.
Construction contracts have been signed for three dirt road paving projects and two municipalities have launched resurfacing projects.
A RIDE III projects timeline is available on the county’s website.
