GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County officials say SCE&G is cutting off service to certain natural gas customers within the county and representatives are going door-to-door to let homeowners know.
The utility company is cutting services to Front Street and everything from East Bay Street to the marsh in the historic district of Georgetown, according to a post from the county. The affected area may need to be expanded as far as Meeting Street.
Customers will receive automated messages about service change, and workers are knocking on doors to talk with homeowners as they prepare to cut service, the county reports.
SCE&G is working with business customers on Front Street to accommodate any requests to help them remain open for the rest of the day. County leaders say the service cut is necessary to prevent damage to meters and regulators and limit the amount of time it will take to get service restored after flooding.
