SCDOT will remove sandbags from Hwy 501 on Monday

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – SCDOT will begin removing the sandbags from Highway 501 Bypass on Monday.

A press release from the department says flood waters from the Waccamaw River in the Conway are receding so crews will begin to remove the flood barrier wall Monday at 10 a.m.

Drivers are urged to avoid that area and use SC-22 in Horry County, however, the US 501 Bypass will have one lane of traffic moving in both directions during the removal operations. Drivers should expect delays and congestion if they use that route.

SCDOT says the flood barrier removal process will operate 24 hours per day until complete. Workers will be on both sides of the highway. Please drive slow and use caution if using that route.
