MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – After the recent snowstorm, potholes appeared on many roads in Horry County, including Holmestown Road.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is expected to begin repaving those areas this week. Shannon Welch with SCDOT said they are not completely resurfacing the road, so it won’t look brand new, but they will work to fill all the patches caused by the snow and ice.
This project will require them to close down one lane at a time in either direction until the spots are patched on both sides of the road.
“I know it slows you down getting to and from where you are, but just be patient, because we’re trying to get the thing in good shape for you to be able to drive safely,” said Welch.
He said they have received calls about some of the back roads in Horry County that were affected as well, but he said they have to go through the state in order to do get them fixed.
“It’s not quite as simple and easy as you may think to just pick a road and pave it,” said Welch. “It has to be on the approved list, as well as be ranked high enough to be able to qualify to resurface the road.”
As for Holmestown Rd., the project is supposed to begin Monday, but with rainy conditions, they will not be able to get started. Welch said they will work as quickly as possible once they begin, and they’re hoping to have the project finished by the end of the week if the weather allows.
