Crews responded to a large woods fire Wednesday afternoon, according to Georgetown County Fire Chief Mack Reed.

The fire was burning near US 17 and Whitehall Avenue, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission. That’s a few miles from the Georgetown Airport.

Chief Reed told News13 that the Forestry Commission and the Georgetown County Fire Department were responding.

We’re told the fire did not threaten anything. Just before 5 p.m., the Commission said the fire had been contained. It was estimated to be around 30 acres when their personnel arrived on the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It’s not clear whether the fire was the result of an earlier controlled burn.
