According to a press release from Santee Cooper, water from the flooding Waccamaw River is overtopping the dike and flowing into Ash Pond 1.
The ash pond is at the former Grainger Generating Station site and the press release says the overtopping started at around 9 a.m. Saturday.
Nearly all the ash in Pond 1 has been excavated so Santee Cooper expects there to be no significant environmental impact.
Santee Cooper will continue to test the water in and around the pond and coordinate with DHEC and nearby water treatment plants.
