MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Samaritan’s Purse set up at Socastee Baptist Church outside Myrtle Beach on Thursday and began helping flood victims the very same day.
The organization is a Christian relief organization. People involved coordinate volunteers from around the country and mostly from the local community. People willing to volunteer can show up any day at 7:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. After a brief introduction, volunteers go out into areas that were flooded to help with cleanup.
“Our goal is to help hurting people all over the world, and right now those hurting people are right here in Horry County,” said Alyssa Benson with Samaritan’s Purse. “So our team is ready to go out and help homeowners mud out their homes, clear debris, basically anything to help them recover from the storm both physically and spiritually.”
The following are tasks with which Samaritan’s Purse volunteers will help:
- removal of personal property & furniture
- muck and gut homes
- sanitizing with Shockwave treatment
- chainsaw work on trees
- debris cleanup
- temporary blue tarp roof repair
Benson expects Samaritan’s purse to be in the area for about a month or more.
In addition to dropping in at the Socastee Baptist Church location, volunteers can also call 843-999-5902 to offer help.
