Dozens of students are in Myrtle Beach for the 15th Annual Palmetto Regional FIRST Robotics Competition.
The three-day event features robots developed and operated by dozens of high school teams from around the world. Competing robots are tested in a variety of games developed by the FIRST Foundation.
“It gives you a lot of life skills – not just engineering and wiring – but also communication and other things, showing you know how to communicate with people, (that) you’re a good team player and you’re nice to even competition,” Carolina Forest High School Senior Caleb Sabalich said.
According to event organizers, the competition reaches more than 70,000 students participating on more than 3,500 teams across the country.
The FIRST Robotics Palmetto Regional will continue through March 3 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Doors open at 8 a.m. each day.
