Even though the severe weather has moved out of our area the risk for rip currents remain.
Emergency officials in Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County are urging people to stay out of the water this weekend.
The Myrtle Beach Fire Department has put up double red flags across the beaches, signaling no entry into the ocean. The department says they will have crews out patrolling the beach because of the risk and the increase in visitors. They do warn however that lifeguards services are not out in force yet and it could take several minutes before crews can get to a person in trouble.
Georgetown County said in a press release that the longshore current will also be stronger this weekend, which is dangerous even for experienced swimmers.
