One Uber and Lyft driver tells News13, he has to cancel rides when he arrives to pick up riders with children, and no car seat.

Christopher Evans says though losing the time and money is frustrating, he is more concerned about the safety of children who are put in that position as many times, riders will wait for another driver.

“They are put in this situation,” Evans said. “They don’t have the voice. They don’t know to say, “Hey mom this isn’t safe, I don’t have a seat belt,” or the seat belt is around a part of their body it shouldn’t be. They dont’t have that voice; that should be their parents.””

Uber and Lyft both have a car seat option for riders in a handful of places, like New York City, but this has not expanded to the Grand Strand.

The father of four told News13, he worried about using a personal car seat as an option because of maintenance and liability.

Most large rental car companies offer the choice for a car seat at airports. There are also other ride options on the Grand Strand such as Carolina Limo, which offers free car seat rentals if booked at the time of reservation.
