The petition does not seek to halt current construction, instead it seeks to stop future projects until an assessment on the flood risks in the area are complete
With more than 450 signatures, the petition cites residents from five area communities: Longs, Socastee, Bucksport, Conway and Myrtle Beach.
Timothy Irving helped draft both the petition and injunction. A “non-bias hydrologist report that is not from out of local EOC” is what he believes the county needs and citizens want.
Irving says many citizens feel the growth of the county is contributing to increased flooding and hopes this injunction will be granted to prevent more people from having to rebuild in the wake of another flood.
Irving tells News13 an injunction has already been drafted and some residents are considering going in on a lawyer together.
