Beginning Monday Myrtle Beach will be instating an “umbrella only” policy for the beach, according to the Myrtle Beach City Government Facebook page.
The rule will be in effect from Monday to Labor Day. Umbrellas may only be up to seven-and-a-half feet in diameter and must be at or behind the marked umbrella line.
This is to provide visitors, as well as lifeguards an unobstructed view of the beach and water.
Tents are not allowed during this time, with the exception of small toddler tents. After Labor Day, tents may be used on the beach until the following Memorial Day.
The City’s umbrella policy first went into effect at the beginning of the 2014 summer season.
