NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- Eight shelters across Horry County are open for people to evacuate.
The Red Cross has staff members here along with 3 local principals, school custodial and lunch staff, DSS, and two Horry County Police officers.
People are staying in the gym area and hallways away from windows. The school can hold up to 800 to 1,000 people.
There are some hurricane veterans who came to this shelter before and there are also families with small children. For some of them, this is their first time experiencing a hurricane leaving them on edge.
“I’m afraid everything is going to completely fall apart. I’m feeling like im worried about the worst,” said Daphne Hole.
“We were here last year and I thought well, we know where the high school is let’s go there,” said Sue Berlino.
“I’m worried what its going to be like after two to three nights on this floor,” said Bill Berlino.
There are 20 designated evacuation pick up locations across the Grand Strand to take people to shelters.
Shelters do not allow animals, guns, or alcohol. Make sure you bring your own supplies like bedding, toiletries, and clothes.
