Horry County homeowners have asked News13 if a road paving project could be a waste of tax money.
Recently, the county repaved a majority of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard, just south of Myrtle Beach.
Some people who live in the area have raised concerns about the project because the road is scheduled to be improved and extended next year.
The county’s spokesperson says the road needed the repaving now and the work won’t be repeated for the extension project that’s part of the “Ride 3” road plan.
“We’re also not to the point of shovels in the ground for that Ride 3 project. It’s in the design phase,” said Kelly Moore, Horry County spokesperson. “But, that area that’s being resurfaced is not going to then be destroyed in order to extend the road. So, it’s all part of that larger infrastructure outline.”
Once the project is complete, the extension of Palmetto Pointe Blvd. will connect the road to Highway 544 at Big Block Road.
