Residents of Myrtle Beach can participate in a program benefiting the Grand Strand Humane Society through their utility bill.
People can choose to donate to the non-profit, R.A.I.N., Remembering Animals In Need, monthly via their City of Myrtle Beach bill for water, sewer, storm water and solid waste service. The donations go directly to the Grand Strand Humane Society.
Although this is not a new program, donations through R.A.I.N. are on the rise. Last month, the humane society recieved $3,651.90 from it.
The shelter takes in more than two thousand pets a year and the executive director tells News13, the donations through this program are an incredible resource as its funding they can count on each month.
“Every animal that comes in immediately gets fully vaccinated,” Grand Strand Humane Society Executive Director Jess Wnuk said. “They get tested for heart worms if they are a dog and tested for FIV and feline leukemia if they are a cat. They get a flea preventative and heartworm preventative and we continue that monthly through their stay here at the shelter. They have a dewormer they get, and they get microchipped. After the five day stray hold, they get spayed or neutered.”
