Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris campaigns in Myrtle Beach; RNC releases statement

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Democratic Senator Kamala Harris, of California, stopped at Mike’s Soul Food in Myrtle Beach on Friday.

Harris said she wants to give a tax break up to $500 a month to families that make less than $100,000 dollars a year.

“We love our country, and we’re prepared to fight for it. That’s the spirit of who we are as Americans, and we are going to harness and capture that spirit,” said Sen. Harris.

Harris also talked about the importance of local people getting involved to be sure people vote in 2020.

“It’s just going to be hard to decide. I think what Democrats and people that really want to do to change this country is we need to elect someone who we know has a good possibility of winning. I mean that’s my biggest things. They’re all great candidates,” said Joann Laur, of Little River.

On Friday, the Republican National Convention released a statement about Harris’ tax plan.

“Kamala Harris’ calls for higher taxes, socialized healthcare and the progressive pipe-dream known as the ‘Green New Deal’ would only turn back the progress we’ve made over the last two years. Harris’ out-of-touch agenda would cost Palmetto Staters trillions of dollars and stunt our country’s roaring economic success,” said RNC spokesperson Mandi Merritt.
