WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBTW) – President Donald Trump has nominated a former Horry County Police Department major to be the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

President Trump announced his intention to nominate Kenneth Charles Canterbury, Jr. to the position on Friday, according to a press release from the Office of the Press Secretary. Canterbury has served as the president of the National Fraternal Order of Police since 2003 and served on the NFOP’s Executive Board for nearly two decades.

Canterbury served as a major in the HCPD after about 26 years in the department’s patrol division, criminal division, and training division, the release also said. Canterbury is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and has been inducted in to the SC Law Enforcement Hall of Fame.
