CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – John Cassidy has owned Duplicates INK, a marketing and print communications company in Conway for 27 years. Days after tropical storm Florence, he now is preparing for his business’s building to flood.
Cassidy says Duplicates INK moved locations in 2007, and he purposefully built his building higher so he would not have to deal with potential flooding a storm could bring.
“It did not flood during Matthew, and it took about seven, eight days to come up to where it is right now,” Cassidy said.
He is preparing Duplicates INK for the worst. On Monday night, Cassidy and his friend, Justin Ferraro of Rivertown Property Inspections, unloaded palettes that will be used to elevate furniture and printing machines to keep them above water inside of the building.
“We’re just gonna bring these palettes over there by boat, and just hope for the best,” Cassidy said.
He plans to relocate his staff to a building in downtown Conway, where Duplicates INK will continue operating. Since the company will not be able to produce product, Cassidy says several business competitors and friends will fill the company’s orders for them.
As for now, Cassidy’s main concern is the wellbeing of his staff, business operations, and his clients.
“Even today, our team, it was not mandatory to come to work because of everything going on; I had 95 percent of our people show up, and they were producing work here today for our clients, because they know the world hasn’t stopped because ours has for a second,” Cassidy said.
“I’m not worried about me, I’m worried about conducting business as usual,” Cassidy said. “This little flood- it’s just a little thing if you think that way.”
