A man has been charged with abandonment of animals after an incident between him and a dog. 

According to a report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Officers were called to an apartment on 67th Avenue North Christmas night in reference to a dog bite. 

When officers arrived John Kent was on his porch being treated by EMS with injuries to both his hands and one of his legs. Officers say he would not answer any questions they asked him. 

The report states a witness told police that Kent cut the dog which led to the dog biting Kent in retaliation. Another witness said that the dog had been provoked all day. 

The dog was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment. Kent was also taken to a hospital for his injuries, he also surrendered the dog to the City of Myrtle Beach. 

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
