Plyler Park in Myrtle Beach gets permanent stage, mermaid

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A mermaid and dolphins will soon come to Myrtle Beach.

Construction at Plyler Park, next to the Myrtle Beach Skywheel, includes a central pedestal where the Goddess of the Sea will be installed in a few weeks, according to the city’s Facebook page.

If you’ve driven by Plyler Park in Myrtle Beach you noticed the new, permanent platform being built that will replace the temporary stage that’s been used in past concerts. The Goddess of the Sea statue will be portioned near the stage.

City officials describe the Goddess of the Sea as a 12 foot high, bronze sculpture of a mermaid and two leaping dolphins. It was designed and created by Kristin Visbal, the same artist who designed the bronze sculpture of a young girl, hands on hips, staring down the Wall Street bull.

An exact date of the goddess’ arrival hasn’t been announced, but city officials say she should arrive in just a few weeks.
