MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – For years, Phoenix Renaissance has held after school care programs and summer camps for children in the Racepath community, but now they have plans to extend their services to families by providing free meals starting this fall.

“Down through the years, and even during the summer camps, I have had people come by and ask where they could get some food,” says Rev. William Gause, President of the Phoenix Renaissance.

According to Gause, there aren’t any places that offer food services nearby, so he is making sure his community center can help.

The Phoenix Renaissance plans to provide a free meal service to families in need starting in the fall. The new program, according to Gause, is needed in the area, especially during the colder months.

“You get parents let off from work. You know how the tourist season goes, and some of them get food stamps and some of them don’t,” says the Reverend. “You got some people that don’t even get anything but need a helping hand.”

The center plans to team up with an agency who will screen the families who apply for the meal service.

The Phoenix Renaissance are looking for donations and volunteers to help with all of their programs at the community center. To help, call the Phoenix Renaissance at (843) 283-3864, or email Rev. Gause at w.gause@yahoo.com
