People honor Martin Luther King, Jr. with parade in Myrtle Beach

Despite the frigid temperatures, Ocean Boulevard was lined with people honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Myrtle Beach’s 13th Annual MLK Parade.

Participants included members of the Georgetown County Drum Line, Women Against Abuse, and a football team from Horry County Schools.

News13 asked some who came how Dr. King, and his work, impacted their lives.

“Civil rights, the civil rights, I appreciate him doing that, so I can be able to vote, so I can be able to walk where I want to walk, sit where I want to sit,” said Georgetown resident Rebecca Stevenson, who attended the parade.

The parade was part of Grand Strand Freedom Week, which continues through the week with a small business workshop, economic development summit, job fair, bias training, and a film and video festival. The week concludes with the Freedom Run and Health and Fitness Expo.
