One man is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 17 near Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach on Saturday evening .
City spokesperson, Pat Dowling said the driver heard a noise, looked at his side mirror and noticed it was gone, and then stopped to notice a pedestrian on the ground.
Dowling says the driver immediately called police.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Dowling says the driver was found not to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances and that other drivers behind him also did not see the pedestrian.
