CONWAY, SC (WBTW)- One local church delivered hundreds of Thanksgiving meals to those who wouldn’t have it otherwise. This year they made meals for Hurricane Florence victims.

Members of the Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church spent all week preparing 600 meals.

“We went to the farm to get the collards and I’ve never seen so many collards in my life,” said Alphonso McCray, a deacon at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

This is the 21st year they’ve fed people on Thanksgiving, and they said this year they made a record number of meals to feed Hurricane Florence Victims.

People can come pick up the meals or they will make deliveries to those who can’t get out like Cora Lee Johnson.

Flooding during the hurricane ruined her home, and she’s currently living in a shed in her backyard.
“It’s been hard too ya know, and everything got messed up so what I got in here is my walker and a few clothes,” said Johnson.

Despite everything, she’s thankful and in still in good spirits.

“For being blessed with this food and for all the help that they’ve given me, we have to take it as it comes and I’m thankful to the Lord for giving us food, and I got a little bed to sleep on. I’m living a little bit different, but it’s alright,” said Johnson.

For those who deliver the meals, they feel just as blessed.

“Exhilarating. I’m very grateful and thankful to be able to do this. When you are blessed, bless others,” said McCray.
