Officers charged for Horry County Sheriff’s Office van drownings out on bond

Stephen Flood and Joshua Bishop appeared before a Marion County judge after turning themselves in  to the Marion County Detention Center Friday morning.

The corrections officers face charges after Nicolette Green and Wendy Newton were killed when the Horry County Sheriff’s van they were in became submerged in floodwaters that rose on Highway 76 in Marion County after Hurricane Florence.

The van’s driver, Stephen Flood, has been charged with two counts each of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter. His bond was set at $30,000 by a judge. Flood was released on bond before noon Friday, according to booking records.

The corrections officer that was a passenger in the van, Joshua Bishop, was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. His bond was set at $10,000. Booking records show he was released on bond before 11 a.m. Friday afternoon.

Both Flood and Bishop will appear in court on February 26.
