NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A North Myrtle Beach police officer is credited with saving the life of a suicidal man who planned to jump from the Little River Bridge.

Officer Brandon Beaudoin was dispatched to the Little River Bridge on April 30 when someone noticed a man wearing a backpack, leaning over the railing. When Officer Beaudoin arrived, he saw the man standing on top of the bridge.

The officer immediately stopped his car, jumped the median, and approached the man, now leaning over the railing, from behind. Officer Beaudoin grabbed the man and tried to pull him from the bridge railing, but the man tucked his feet under the bridge piping.

A bystander helped Officer Beaudoin free the man’s feet and pull him over the bridge railing.

Once safely on the side of the bridge, the man told Officer Beaudoin he intended to kill himself that day. Officer Beaudoin found a letter in the man’s possession that confirmed his intentions.

Officer Beaudoin was able to get the man to accept help and he was transported by EMS to get evaluated and receive treatment.
