MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The National Weather Service is confirming a tornado touched down early Sunday morning in Myrtle Beach.
Meteorologists say an EF0 tornado touched down at around 1:52 Sunday morning. The tornado brought wind speeds of 85 mph.
Surveyors observed a path of spotty damage in an area that included the 600 block of 6th Avenue South, the KOA campground, the 800 block of Columbia Drive, among other locations nearby.
This information comes from NWS meteorologist Carl Morgan.
He was one of the meteorologists who surveyed the area Sunday, looking for evidence a tornado had touched down.
A report released by the NWS Sunday night provides more details about the path the twister took.
It first touched down on 8th Avenue South between Denny’s and Captain Cain’s Miniature Golf, before heading north-northwest.
It took down several limbs from oak trees on S. Oak Street and through the Shady Grove Mobile Home Park. Two homes there were damaged by large sections of trees falling.
After lifting, the tornado touched down once again in the KOA campground. A large hardwood tree was snapped along with several other smaller trees, the report says.
The tornado touched down two more times, along Columbia Drive and Pine Drive damaging pine trees at both locations.
