NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – North Myrtle Beach’s proposed plastic bags ordinance was deferred to a future meeting during a city council meeting on Monday.
According to City of North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Pat Dowling, the ordinance will be on the April 15 agenda for a final reading.
North Myrtle Beach city council held its first workshop on the topic in July 2018.
The council considered the pros and cons of a potential plastic bag ban; many of the members expressed concerns of how they would begin to police the ordinance.
City council also discussed the potential plastic bag ban at a meeting in March.
The discussion centered around a proposed ordinance to ban single-use plastic bags at retail establishments within the city.
Council also previously amended the ban plan to go into effect in 2021 instead of 2024, as discussed earlier.
Dowling previously told News13 that enforcement is always a concern for these types of bans.
