The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety is partnering with area businesses as part of the SC Out of Their Hands Initiative.

So far, three businesses have taken the pledge.

The Alcohol Enforcement Team, part of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety, works seasonally to fight underage drinking in the City.

The AET has seven officers who patrol during the spring break and graduation seasons and officials with the department tell News13, the goal is not to arrest, but to educate and dispose of alcohol where teens are present.

News13 asked a lieutenant with the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety, how she thought the team and this initiate will help stop underage drinking.

“Reduce the amount of underage drinking,”Dana Griffin said. “Not only by preventing teenagers from wanting to drink, or by partnering with the businesses’ we’re making it more difficult for them to actually procure the alcohol.”
