NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – North Myrtle Beach officials say crews have not found any major damage caused by Florence, but more beach erosion is possible.
According to a Saturday morning update given by the city, winds from Tropical Storm Florence are blowing onshore, causing some erosion. The tide is low right now, so erosion may escalate as the tide rises, the release says.
Street flooding in North Myrtle Beach has occurred in the usual spots, but no major damage has been reported by crews accessing the area, officials report.
Regarding Cherry Grove and other low-lying areas of the city, officials say no major flooding has occurred, but because the storm is expected to hover over the area Saturday into Sunday, flooding is still a possibility. In addition, the tide is rising and the winds are no longer blowing the ocean water back out to sea.
North Myrtle Beach Public Safety is out and about in force making their presence known in all areas of the city, officials confirm. The city asks that residents stay off the roads as crews continue to clear debris and look for unseen damage.
A daily curfew is in effect from 7pm-7am. It will remain in place until further notice.
