North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue crews used teamwork to extinguish a small fire in a wooded area Tuesday afternoon, while also dealing with high temperatures and access issues.
The department says multiple crews responded to a reported woods fire near a dead end off Little River Neck Road just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Crews learned the fire was a piece of logging equipment in a remote area down a logging trail.
The location of the fire was about a half mile from the highway and the closest the department’s engine could get was still about 600 feet away, according to the department. “Quite a bit of fire hose” was used to get to the fire.
The department also used an off-road UTV.
Firefighters also dealt with a heat index of about 88 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Crews were able to knock the fire down within 30 minutes, but remained on scene until around 4:30 p.m. to make sure all hot spots were extinguished.
Horry County Fire Rescue assisted.
The fire did not spread into the woods and no injuries were reported.
