GREEN SEA AREA, SC (WBTW) – New information has been released about a brush fire in Horry County in incident reports.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission and Horry County police say no arrests have been made in the incident.

“A person conducting a debris burn in their yard allowed the fire to escape onto a neighbor’s property,” said Doug Wood, with the SCFC. “No citations have been issued, or charges filed, yet by the Forestry Commission in relation to the incident, though our law enforcement officers continue to investigate the incident with the other responding agencies.”

The SCFC sent one bulldozer to ploy firebreaks around the fire, but no other SCFC personnel were at the scene.

According to an HCPD incident report, officers responded to Bertie Road in the Green Sea area around 4 p.m. on Wednesday in reference to a fire call. A firefighter reportedly stated that a man had set fire to the brush across the street and then became belligerent with fire crews on the scene attempting to control the blaze.

The man reportedly told police he had been home for a couple of months after spending 13 years in prison and that before going to prison, he kept the area clean, the report said.

The man reportedly admitted to setting the fire and said he burned mattresses, tires and trash that had been dumped by unknown subjects across the road from his home, the report also said. The man also reportedly stated he was not trying to damage anything and that he just wanted to begin cleaning up the area again. Officers were unable to determine who owned the property across the street and if the man had permission to burn on the property. The man was advised not to burn anything else and to get permission before going back onto the property again.
