HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A new industrial park could be coming to the Conway area, and construction could start as early as June.

The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation is partnering with Santee Cooper to create the Ascot Valley Industrial Park. The nearly 100 acres of land is owned by Santee Cooper. It’s located on Adrian Highway, just beyond the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 701.

President of the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation, Josh Kay, said they are looking to bring an industrial park similar to the Atlantic Center on Highway 501.

“We’re out of an industrial space in the greater Conway area,” said Kay. He said the Atlantic Center is full, but there is still interest in manufacturing, so they are rezoning the Ascot Valley land for that purpose. “We see that as an opportunity for us to create a true industrial campus,” said Kay.

This industrial park is also expected to bring a job boost to the county, according to Kay. “If you take 10 of those buildings with 50 employees out there, that’s an opportunity for 500 employees to be coming in and out of there every day.” said Kay.

The corporation received about $1.5 million in grants so far, and Kay said that will cover the majority of the cost to construct the water lines, sewer lines, and roads. He said they will also have to create a turning lane on Adrian Highway.

The Horry County Planning Commission meets on Thursday to vote on the approval of rezoning the land for a manufacturing park. If the request is approved, it will move to county council for three readings. Kay said they are expecting to have final approval by May and get started on construction shortly after.
