MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Guests and employees of the Hilton on Lake Shore Drive had a surprise visitor on the second day of sea turtle nesting season.

A nesting loggerhead chose to come ashore to nest just north of Apache Pier at about sunrise on Thursday, the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol reported in a Facebook post.

The group said 113 eggs were found in the nest and located to a more secure spot.

Many people walking the beach or watching from the hotel balconies saw the turtle make her nest, according to the group.

“A big thanks to all who helped this morning, especially the staff of the Hilton…all were so concerned about the safety of the turtle and the eggs,” the patrol group posted.
