MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach was one of 10 cities selected to receive a $20,000 grant, and the city plans to improve an area near Mr. Joe White Avenue.
A post from the city’s Facebook page confirms Myrtle Beach was awarded a $20,000 TD Green Streets grant that will be used to enhance Myrtle’s Market, located at the corner of Oak Street and Mr. Joe White Avenue.
The Arbor Day Foundation and TD Bank announced Myrtle Beach as a recipient of the grant, which aims to support urban greening and tree-planting projects in low- to moderate-income areas.
The grant will be used to improve Myrtle’s Market with additional landscaping, sidewalks, irrigation and grass.
Myrtle’s Market is scheduled to open for the season May 2. The farmers’ market provides fresh, affordable and locally grown produce for those on limited incomes, as well as those concerned about eating healthier, the post says. This year, the market also plans to offer cooking demonstrations, exercise classes, planting tips from Master Gardeners, local art and music and plenty of fresh produce, desserts and local honey.
