MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – About 30 people rallied Monday evening to oppose discrimination against transgender people.
The group Grand Strand Action Together organized the rally at Valor Park in Market Common. This comes after President Trump suggested last week he would take actions that would affect transgender people.
At the rally, those who are or know someone who’s transgender spoke about their experiences.
“We are people too and we deserve to have the same rights as anyone else, and to have the same protections, and not to be disregarded by this administration,” said Veronica Walters, vice chair of the Myrtle Beach human rights commission.
A memo obtained by CBS News says the Trump Administration is suggesting rolling back more expansive gender identities originally protected under President Obama.
