MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Myrtle Beach Police Department is reaching out to business owners to talk about how they can work together in reducing crime.

This is part of police chief Amy Prock’s plan to have more open communication with the community, and in doing so, the police will have two business outreach meetings on Thursday.

“We want to put a name with a face, so if they have problems or questions, they can reach out to someone directly,” said Captain Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

He said they will be sharing information about Chief Prock’s vision for Myrtle Beach, but they will also be talking about how businesses can play a part in reducing crime.

“We’ll also help you with things such as tell you if you have sufficient amounts of lighting around your business, or if you have too many displays within your window that prevent us from seeing inside when we drive by,” said Captain Crosby.

One business owner said these outreach meetings are important because break-ins can happen at anytime, but knowing how to reduce the risk is necessary.

“I know there have been some break ins in the residential areas around our business, so I think it’s nice and reassuring that the police are interested in helping us answer questions and be there for whatever we might need,” said Paula Player, owner of the Paula Player Photography studio.

The business outreach meetings are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot. You do not need to pre-register or sign up, and all business owners in the city are welcome to attend. Captain Crosby said Thursday’s outreach meetings are the first in a series of meetings to come. WBTW will keep you updated on dates and times for future meetings when they become available.
