Myrtle Beach police looking out for drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve

Law enforcement across the Carolinas will keep an eye out for drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve, especially as we get closer to midnight and in the early-morning hours.

Myrtle Beach Police Corporal Thomas Vest says they will have extra officers stationed throughout the city at all the main events, including at Broadway at the Beach, Market Common, and Ocean Boulevard.

“We’ve seen lots of collisions involving alcohol, and you can see that from the statistics statewide,” said Cpl. Vest. “And, what we really want to see is that people avoid getting into a car after they’ve been drinking, so having a plan before you go out is the best way that you can make sure that you can get home safe.”

Officers will specifically look for people who show signs of intoxication and trying to get into vehicles as well those already on the road.
