In March, News13 reported that Myrtle Beach chef Andreann Geise earned a spot in the World Food Championship. Now, her husband, Rick Geise, got a golden ticket, too.
The competitive couple is preparing to travel to and compete in the championship at the Reunion Tower Lawn in Dallas, Texas between October 16 and 20 this year.
“I’m excited about it,” said Rick Geise. “I’m excited, but a little stressed.”
When Rick Geise made his Lowcountry style red bean and shrimp chili and took a picture of it, he never thought he’d get a golden ticket to the World Food Championship.
“I was either considering seafood or chili, so I made a seafood chili, a red bean seafood chili, and it actually won,” he said.
He’s a machinist and toolmaker by trade, so this will be his first live television experience.
His wife, Andreann Geise, inspired him to enter after her appearances on Food Network and the Cooking Channel.
“He doesn’t even know some of the things that are going to happen,” said Andreann Geise. “So, [the] structured [round], they’ll tell him July 1st. He’ll find out that he’s got to make this type of chili. It could be a seafood, it could be a traditional Texas chili, a Texas red chili.”
After the structured round, he’ll get to make a signature chili dish. He’s keeping which one he’ll make under wraps for now.
