MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The City of Myrtle Beach is asking the community to help stop illegal dumping and posted a picture on Facebook of a pile of used mattresses and chairs.
With a plea of, “We need your help!” city leaders remind residents it is illegal to dump household trash, appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires, construction material or bulk waste in unauthorized areas.
“Illegal dumping causes pollution, health, environmental and economic issues,” the post reads.
The city urges anyone who sees someone illegally dumping trash, to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1382 or the Solid Waste Division at 843-918-2160.
“If it’s safe, remember to take a picture and record the offender’s description and license plate number to help catch illegal dumpers,” the city encourages.
Violators can face a fine of up to $500 and/or 30 days in jail per occurrence, upon conviction.
