MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – After several busy weeks due to Hurricane Florence, the city’s first responders and neighborhoods enjoyed a calm evening together.

The city celebrated National Night Out, which is a nationwide event dedicated to helping relationships between emergency personnel and their communities. Adults got to meet police officers and firefighters, while kids could check out police cruisers and fire trucks.

The National Night Out in the city also allowed residents to show appreciation for first responders’ work during Hurricane Florence.

“We know that they’ve been working long, long hours,” said Pat Shama, who organized the National Night Out event in Emmens Preserve. “So it’s an even better opportunity to just thank them for being there.”

This year is the 35th anniversary of National Night Out and 14 neighborhoods in the city hosted events Tuesday.
