Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue and other firefighters from across our area trained for trench rescues on Thursday.

The training involved advanced tactics for trench rescues and Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said the training is important.

The training happened behind the public works building off Mr. Joe White Avenue.

“Typically, what happens is they either don’t take the proper precautions to keep themselves safe in there or something happens and the dirt comes back in and somebody gets trapped,” said Lt. Jonathan Evans with MBFR. “So, this is kind of a unique situation. We don’t see it very often, but when we do, we want to make sure we know what we’re doing because it can be a time consuming process.”
