Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Alvin Payne and Battalion Chief Dobson are retiring from the department. 

Payne is retiring after 42 years of service to the city and Dobson is retiring after 31 years of service to the department. 

Chief Payne started working with the city as a teenager in 1976. He worked for the Parks and Recreation Department before becoming a firefighter in 1979. He worked his way up the rank and became Fire Chief in 2002.

After Payne’s retirement, he plans to travel with his wife, Debbie, and enjoy more quality time with his friends and family.

Battalion Chief Dobson started working with the department in 1987.
