MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Benchmark, the company hired by the city of Myrtle Beach to create a plan for downtown redevelopment presented their final suggestions to council on Tuesday.
The consultants suggested a number of changes the city could make to the downtown area, including creating an art district, realigning the city’s traffic grid to help with congestion in the area and building safe pedestrian and bike paths.
Benchmark also suggested ways the city could improve the overall perception of the downtown area.
Myrtle Beach city officials will need to review the details of the master plan before formally accepting.
“Obviously we cant afford to do everything on the plan, certainly not near term, but city council will have that conversation, ‘We’d like to do a, b and c, and e and f. Let’s figure out how to fund those projects,'” Mark Kruea, spokesperson for the city of Myrtle Beach said.
