MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Racepath Community Center, a non-profit which hosts after school programs and summer camps for children is looking to expand their services to parents, but say a lack of funding is holding them back.
The center relies heavily on donations to operate, however, they say less money is coming in since the holidays ended.
The adult programs the center is looking to start would focus on literacy and addiction recovery, but they need more funding to get them underway.
The director of Racepath and President of Phoenix Renaissance, Rev. William Gause says right now he needs to focus the center’s spending on paying bills and keeping the programs they already offer.
“You cannot open a business without some funds, and you’ve got to have funds; you’ve got to have funds. Right now we have 2,500 dollars to help with the utility bill, but sooner or later that 2,500 dollars is gonna be gone, and you’ve got to do everything in your power to make sure these lights stay on,” Gause said.
According to Gause, if the community center had a steady outlet for funding, they would be able to offer more services and purchase new supplies for their after school and summer camp programs.
